西村計雄 NISHIMURA Keiyū
Châteaux du Saumur

The Loire Valley, also known as the Valley of the Kings, is home to the ancient castles of Saumur.
Just as Kahnweiler, the art dealer who nurtured Picasso, described Nishimura Keio's work as having "the colors of Japanese sweets," the soft gray background in this work also contributes to the overall effect. The light, fluid movement created by the brushstrokes, reminiscent of wiping a window, and the gracefully flowing lines are particularly striking. This use of color and brushwork, imbued with an Eastern sensibility, transcends mere fusion with the West, seemingly attempting to translate the foreign landscape into the artist's own expression.
