Autumn on the Seine

The Impressionist Monet boarded his 'atelier boat' and created many works from a low vantage point where the water surface and sky dominated the composition. This work is also composed from a viewpoint near the water's surface, as if standing in the middle of the river. One wonders whether Miyake himself followed Monet's example and created it on a boat. The autumn-colored trees are reflected in the Seine River, spreading a golden scene. Autumn often evokes a quiet sentimentality known as 'mono no aware,' but in this work, the bold perspective is utilized, emphasizing the bright, open brilliance of the season rather than the desolation of autumn.
