MINAMI Kunzo

MINAMI Kunzo studied in England and was recognized as an impressionist painter after returning to Japan.After that, he moved to a new style using the colors and neat depictions seen in Oriental art, and this is a valuable piece painted at a time that marked a turning point in his style.
The misty sky and pointillist depiction of the waves clearly borrow elements from Monet, but the colors of the grass and soil on the beach in the foreground, as well as the strong presence of the ship, all lend themselves to subsequent developments.
