Under the Sky of Paris(Sous le ciel de Paris)

When one thinks of "Under the Paris Sky," the film released in 1951 and its theme song immediately come to mind, so much so that it is strongly associated with the image of Paris today. This work depicts two people with their backs turned, and the one in the foreground appears to be holding something like a basket of flowers. From this clue, it may be inferred that this work was inspired by the lyrics of this famous chanson. The pale green finish of the painting was applied significantly later than the other layers of paint, as can be seen from the areas of flaking that reveal the underlying layers. It is also enjoyable to imagine the changes in the artist's state of mind.
