北 蓮蔵 KITA Renzō
Seine

This work has a back inscription by the painter himself, stating that it was painted with a palette knife and that brushes were scarcely usable. Perhaps during his time in Europe, he trained until the brushes he had on hand became unusable. Although this work is painted entirely with a palette knife, the mountains in the background are rendered with gentle strokes along the ridges, and the texture of the water surface is well expressed. The trees are painted differently according to their species. The inability to use brushes does not limit the expression; rather, the brushwork of the palette knife is fully utilized.
The time depicted may be early morning or evening. Overall, purple and red tones are used as complementary colors, enhancing the natural landscape.
