土橋 醇 DOBASHI Jyun
Composition du Village 村

It can be confirmed from the endorsement on the back of the work that it was painted in Paris, but it is unknown which village was depicted. Dobashi stayed in France for 20 years from 1953, the year after receiving the Kofukai Special Award, and this work would have been painted in the third year of that stay. The surface of the painting, layered several times while creating a textured, uneven finish, also appears like a soft cushion with long fibers. However, the cream-colored areas applied with what seems like a painting knife have relatively clear contours. Perhaps such variations in form and unique color schemes were cultivated precisely because of being in Paris.
