Southern France

佐分 真 SABURI Makoto

This work has been re-stretched onto a small wooden frame to fit the Japanese standard size, but it was originally painted on a French standard canvas. Therefore, it is clear that it was painted during his stay in France. Sabun Shin's history of staying in Europe spans from 1927 to 1932, and compared with his other works from Europe, it is considered to have been created around 1930. The trees, with their strong trunks and leaves rendered in a slightly rough touch, are lively, and the depiction of the houses using a palette knife shows the influence of Vlaminck.
