Tamotsu Tanaka was born in Japan and moved to the United States at the age of 18. At 34, he went to Paris, where he continued his work without returning to Japan until his death at 55. He left behind many nudes and portraits characterized by beautiful, supple lines and refined colors.
This work depicts an elegant woman clad in fur, with careful attention given to the depiction of the textures of the fur and clothing. The model's own emotional expression is restrained, bringing a dignified atmosphere to the entire composition.
