Miyake painted this work from a position overlooking the Seine, either from Grande Augustin Street on the left bank or around Pont Neuf. The subject, Saint-Michel, shines in an orange glow under the sunlight. It is somewhat distant or hidden in the shadow of trees, yet it has such a presence that you would hardly notice that fact.
